I can’t count the amount of times I have set myself a fitness goal and then given up on it. From joining Netball, Zumba, Golf and everything in between, I still haven’t managed to keep at one for longer than a month. The problem, like with most things I do, is that I get bored too easily. I don’t see the improvements, so I give up.
But do not fear, I’ve turned a corner! I hope. Earlier this week on Monday the 12th of Feb, I started running. Running… something I’ve always HATED. It takes me back to wheezing my way through cross-country in year 8 and literally dying after finishing the course. However, as I’ve exhausted all my other possible options, it is time to get outside and put those trainers on.
This all came about with me browsing through the fitness section in Sainsbury’s magazine and coming across the couch to 5k app. I downloaded it and off I went. Three runs a week for nine weeks, seems easy enough. Little did I know how unfit I am. I’m not embarrassed to say that I gained multiple stitches on my first ‘run’ (more like jog/walk) but I’m determined not to give up this time. I mean, this app is basically made for beginners so I have no excuse.
So, from now on, every Monday I will be posting an honest weekly update on my three runs of the week. I’m hoping the pressure of writing about it forces me to do it.
‘The trouble with jogging is that by the time you realize you’re not in shape for it, it’s too far to walk back.’
